What is Advocacy Training?
An integral part of VBJI's mission of ending human trafficking in Hampton Roads is to provide victims with the resources they need as they seek healing and a new beginning. In order to do that, we have a team of victim advocates who have completed intensive training, background checks, psychological evaluations, and panel interviews to prepare to work one-on-one with individuals who have been exploited by the commercial sex industry.
We launched our first course in the Spring of 2014 and we are excited to be holding our eleventh Victim Advocacy Training Course in the Spring of 2021!
This 40-hour+ advocacy training is for those who desire to work directly with those who have been victimized by the commercial sex industry. It consists of a combination of presentations from local experts and our staff. Beyond completion of the class, if you intend to volunteer with VBJI as a victim advocate, you will also need to successfully complete a psychological evaluation, background check, and interview. The draft overview schedule for Spring 2021 is listed below. Please note that registration for Advocacy Training is a commitment to the entirety of the schedule. Class schedules may change with future training sessions based on the availability of instructors and changes to content. Please email us with any questions.
Cost: $100(Those planning on becoming volunteer advocates with VBJI will receive a $50 discount.) When you are ready to register for this training, please click "Register" in the menu above.
