What is Advocacy Training?
An integral part of VBJI's mission of ending human trafficking in Hampton Roads is to provide victims with the resources they need as they seek healing and a new beginning. In order to do that, we have a team of victim advocates who have completed intensive training, background checks, psychological evaluations, and panel interviews to prepare to work one-on-one with individuals who have been exploited by the commercial sex industry.
We launched our first course in the Spring of 2014 and we are excited to be holding our ninth Victim Advocacy Training Course in the Fall of 2019! Registration is now closed. Please sign up here if you are interested in participating in a future Advocacy Training.
This 40-hour+ advocacy training is for those who desire to work directly with those who have been victimized by the commercial sex industry. It consists of a combination of presentations from local experts and our staff. While the class is typically open to all, we prioritized the Fall 2019 offering for those wishing to serve as victim advocates specifically with VBJI. Beyond completion of the class, you will also need to successfully complete a psychological evaluation, background check, and interview. The full schedule for Fall 2019 is listed below. Please note that registration for Advocacy Training is a commitment to the entirety of the schedule. Class schedules may change with future training sessions based on the availability of instructors and changes to content. Please email us with any questions.
